Throwback Thursday ’12: Georgetown Eagles State run

Some would say Georgetown’s magical State 2012 run began back in sixth grade.  The core of the team that helped get the Eagles to Cowboys Stadium had been part of the Georgetown school system since early days.  Our story starts  during Summer 7×7 play in July.

Snupe Daniel, Chris Sanchez and iReporter Tamsyn Stonebarger made the road trip to Dallas Jesuit to check out EFND in the Gamebreakers Red Bull National 7×7 Championship

The boys (Jake, Brent, Noah, Brandon) came by Fanstand Studio to talk about their incredible Summer.

In a chilling and prophetic moment, Georgetown WR Randy Knightner (’13) correcdtly predicted that the Eagles would go to State.

The wins began to roll in.  Including this one against a Manor Mustang team that would advance to the State Final Four the next season.

Rivalry game dominance (48-7) over East View in Week Six

We definitely had some fun in between games and school.

Those playoff wins sure feel special, with a big win over Angleton to become Regional champs, and get a date in the State Quarters next week.

Practicing on Thanksgiving/Black Friday is a beautiful thing – because it means your still in the playoffs, and your State hopes are still alive.

December, and the Eagles just kept on winning.  Beating Nederland in impressive State Quarterfinals fashion to advance into the Winter.

This was exhilarating and heartbreaking, because two of our area teams were meeting in the State 4A Final Four.  And with respects to our friends/family from Rouse, the Eagles were best team that afternoon.

The promise and potential fulfilled – this Eagle team had done it!  As Knightner projected in the team’s 1st Two-A-Days mixtape of the year…Georgetown was State bound.

We caught up with our Senior ’13 Eagles to get their final Fanstand shout outs during their award banquet

…and that’s it (for 2012’s Georgetown Eagle State run).  What school/year should be highlighted next Throwback Thursday??  Hit us up on Twitter @FanstandATX
