Really appreciate the feedback from our Georgetown ’12 State Finals run from last week…so we’ll try to roll these trips down memory lane a weekly thing. This round, showcasing a magical 2014 State Final Four run for the Vandegrift Vipers!
Coming off an area round heartbreaking loss to Tivy the year prior, Coach Drew Sanders had a strong feeling his program was ready to take the next step. So before heading into the Summer, the Vipers had one of their best Spring Camps ever, culminating with the Spring Jamboree.
The 2014 season got off to a roaring start with a 55 point explosion from the Vipers @ Elgin
In their home opener, the Vipers showed Monroe Stadium they would be able to compete with anyone, including big out-of-area teams like Cooper. RB Travis Brannan (’16) ran for four TDs to seal a tough win, earning him Fanstand Week Two MVP
Another quality road win for Vandy, this round versus Killeen in Week Three
Week Four’s district opener saw the East View Patriots was a tough game, as the Vipers continued to fight for a new dominant identity.
Week Five versus Leander was another explosion of offense, totaling 56 against the Lions
Week Seven saw the Vipers going up against unbeaten Vista Ridge
Check out this historical/emotional win for the Vipers over Cedar Park, the programs 1st-ever win over the Timberwolves
Another big road win for the Vipers, their 3rd district dub over an improved Dripping Springs squad
This Week Ten win over future TCU QB Brennen Wooten and Marble Falls secured an important 4th district win for the Vipers
Setting a new program record for points scored (63), the Vipers needed every one to secure the final playoff spot in an epic win over Georgetown in Week Eleven
The Playoffs are here! What a grind to get in – now how much does Vandy have left in the tank? A playoff record total points performance in McCallum showed the State they are for real.
After a rain delay, Vandegrift finished off a quality Lockhart team at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex, earning Vandy its 1st ever football area championship!
More program history! A late November playoff dub versus Flour Bluff is putting Vandegrift Football on the State map.
Wow. The State Quarterfinals are here, and Vandegrift is too. Playing an emotionally charged LBJ team, the Vipers gutted out more program history with this big win.
An incredible season came to an end in the State 4A Semifinal (the game before State) against a Temple Wildcats team full of current Division I players. Includes an incredible/emotional post game interview with Coach Drew Sanders.
The Vipers would end up making the State Quarterfinals in 2015 (eventually losing to Vista Ridge), but the wave effects of the 2014 season are still felt today in 2017. Thank you for taking this trip down Vipers memory lane with us. Who should we ‘throwback’ to next week?? Tweet us @FanstandATX or direct message/email Snupe Daniel: firstname.lastname@example.org
