NEW SUNDAY: Harvey causes cancellations, changes for Friday night openers

(FanstandATX) — Some things are bigger than football, and the devastation being caused by what is now Tropical Storm Harvey certainly is.

Westlake Athletics officials announced Sunday afternoon that Friday night’s season opener at Katy has been cancelled, due to the ongoing catastrophic flooding in the Houston area as a result of now Tropical Storm Harvey.

The Chaps will now open their 2017 campaign on the road against College Station – Saturday, 9/2 at 2pm.

Vista Ridge’s opener against Corpus Christi Flour Bluff has also been cancelled, according to Corpus Christi officials.

The Rangers will now face San Antonio Southwest – who was originally scheduled to play a Victoria school. The game is still set for neutral territory at University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Friday night at 7:30.

Dripping Springs and Bastrop have also moved their contest to a 2pm kick on Saturday. It will still be in Dripping Springs – the first varsity game to be held at the new Tiger Stadium.
