Two-A-Days Tour ’17: East View Patriots

Today marks the first day of full pads for East View Football as iReporters Paighton Corely and Sydney Huck begin their first year of iReporting!

After missing the playoffs in 2016, its not hard to envision a major bounce back in ’17 with a slew of returning talent (3-7 overall record).  Coach Robert Davies decision to play so many youngsters in 19-5A last year (2-6 district record) should pay large dividends in the new year.

Reigning 19-5A Newcomer of the Year, Zion Hester (’19), is a monster on offense, but told us in a recent podcast that his preferred position is safety (listen here).

Torrie Davis (’18) could be the rock that the Patriots lean on in the running game.  Davis is a rumbling backer with surprisingly soft hands and quick feet.  Toss in Marcus Maldonado (’18) as your deep threat, and EV has the tools to keep defenses honest.

When it comes to defense, that is where the Pats needed the most improvement over last year (gave up 30+ point per game).  But with Jaden Selucky (’18) and Donald Walton (’18) returning (Selucky led team with 4 interceptions), plus Hester and breakout candidate Devauhn Little (’19), plus Jaden Brown (’18) and Isaac Ochoa (’18) being a year older, we should see that inflated number come down.

We had the pleasure of watching EV qualify for the State 7×7 Tournament this past Summer – the program’s first time to do so since 2014.

Stay tuned as EV continues to prepare for its road game season opener versus the Hays Rebels on September 1st.
