10 straight victories out of 12 all-time meetings. Lake Travis came into Friday night’s Battle of the Lakes with a bit of history on their side.
None of that mattered Friday night, however, as the fifth-ranked Westlake Chaparrals (7-0, 3-0 25-6A) snapped the losing streak and handed the Lake Travis Cavaliers (4-2, 1-1 25-6A) a 21-14 loss.
Westlake scored first on a 12-yard run from Nakia Watson, but the Cavs tied it quickly on a 74-yarder from Matthew Baldwin to Garrett Wilson. Another 3-yard run from Baldwin gave Lake Travis a 14-7 halftime lead.
The Chaps’ defense took over in the second half, shutting out Lake Travis completely. With the game tied at 14, Watson punched it in from 1 yard out for the go-ahead score with under four minutes to play. Lake Travis drove down the field, but the Cavs came up short on fourth down near the Westlake 22 yard line in the final minute.
