BREAKING TUESDAY: Lehman Head Football Coach Headed to UIW

Coach Kirkland, hired from the El Paso area in May of 2017 is moving onto the college level - reportedly as a running back coach at Incarnate Word. (PC: Will Engleman)

Just shy of 9 months after being hired on as athletic coordinator/head coach at Lehman High School, Joshua Kirkland will be headed to San Antonio under former Texas Tech coach Eric Morris, at University of Incarnate Word!

iReporter Kalei Engleman confirmed with Coach Kirkland this afternoon.  The football team finished 1-9 on the season in a district that featured a State Finalist (Lake Travis), Semifinalist (Westlake) and area finalist (Vandegrift).  Coach Kirkland certainly made his mark in his lone season.  Leaving behind a strong crew of returning Lobos:

CJ Scott (’19) (4th of team with 50 tackles)

Jake Cude (’19) (2nd on team with 60 tackles)

Terry Maher-McGee (’19) (32 tackles, team leading 4 sacks)

Diego Romero (’20) (370 rush yards, 115 receiving yards)

Noe Santos (’20) (team leading 70 tackles)

WR Zack Harris (’20) (35 catches, 340 yards, 2 TDs)

Bryant Lewis (’21)

Of the returning cast, Lewis is the most intriguing, totaling 4 touchdowns (2 rushing, 2 receiving).  Outside of Hutto’s Landyn Watson, Lewis’ performance was among the best among area freshmen in 2017.  Stay tuned for the latest in Lehman Athletic news with Fanstand ATX.  ‘Like no one else’.
