AUSTIN (FanstandATX) — Austin ISD athletic events will begin enforcing a “clear bag policy” this fall, the district announced Friday.
Officials say the policy will be enforced at the district’s central athletic facilities – Burger Center, Delco Center, House Park, Nelson Field and the Noack Sports Complex. Similar policies have been put into place in recent years at professional and collegiate venues across the country.
Approved bags must be clear and not exceed 12 inches (by 6 inches by 12 inches) or be a clear one-gallon resealable plastic freezer storage bag. Bags must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and have a maximum of one logo imprint not exceeding 4.5 inches tall x 3.4 inches wide.
The only non-clear bags permitted are small clutch bags (with or without a strap) that are the size of a hand. Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at designated areas. Any backpacks, bags with printed patterns, fanny packs, purses, reusable grocery bags, mesh or straw bags, duffle bags, large totes, camera or binocular cases and diaper bags are banned.
“Additionally, common items not permitted in athletics venues are video cameras, professional detachable-lens cameras, electronic equipment cases, banners, fireworks, strollers, tripods, alcoholic beverages, coolers, cans, bottles, umbrellas, flagpoles, pets or artificial noisemakers,” the district said.
